LWC Baseball falls 7-6 to Culver-Stockton

Six-Run seventh not enough; game today in Nashville. Game Thursday at Raider Field against Brescia

By Chris Wells, LWC Sports Information director

The Lindsey Wilson College baseball team just fell short of their biggest last at-bat comeback of the season on Saturday.

The Blue Raiders (7-6) trailed No. 10-ranked Culver-Stockton (MO) College 7-0 entering the bottom of the seventh of the first game of a scheduled doubleheader.

Culver-Stockton scored four runs in the sixth and three more in the seventh to take the lead after five innings of scoreless baseball.

Lindsey Wilson freshman Zach Prichard led off the bottom of the seventh and reached base after a passed ball strikeout. Sophomore Matt Scoggins singled and junior Ace Adcock walked to load the bases for senior Nick Phelps.

Phelps single moved everyone up one base to cut the Culver-Stockton lead to 7-1.

Senior Kerry Gorley followed with a two-run single. Sophomore Nathan Bray loaded the bases again with a walk. Senior Braidy Vance single to drive in the fourth and fifth Lindsey Wilson runs of the inning.

Lindsey Wilson junior Mark Jurczynskis fielders choice scored Bray to cut the lead to 7-6 with one out.

A passed ball and wild pitch later, Jurczynski stood 90 feet from tying the game.

Senior Matt Johnson lifted a wind swept ball to shallow center field.

Culver-Stocktons Doug West secured the fly ball for the innings second out and whipped the ball to catcher Jonathan Maestas who applied the tag on Johnson who attempted to score to end the game.

Lindsey Wilson falls to 7-6 on the season, while Culver Stockton improves to 3-2.

Snow canceled the second game of the scheduled doubleheader.
The Blue Raiders returned on Wednesday, at No. 24-ranked Trevecca Nazarene (TN) University in Nashville and are set to return home at 2 p.m. CST on Thursday, March 8, as they host Brescia (KY) University at Raider Field.
