Obituary: Marshall Lee Wheeler, 73

Mr. Wheeler was a timberman and the head of a large, well-known Adair County family

Marshall Lee Wheeler, 73, 500 Willis ST, Columbia, KY, died Saturday, March 3, 2007, at 10:25pm CT, at the Westlake Regional Hospital Emergency Room.

The funeral service will be Wednesday, March 7, 2007, at 11:00am CT, at Grissom Funeral Home with Bro. Lonny Karnes and Bro. Bobby Wheeler officiating. Burial will be in the McClister Cemetery at Fairplay, KY.



He was a son of the late Simon Wheeler and a long time timber cutter and sawmill worker.

Survivors include:
  • His mother: Zelpha McClister, Columbia, KY

  • His wife: Onie Mae McKinney Wheeler, Columbia, KY

  • Four daughters and spouses: Cathy and Gene Burton, Teresa and Freddie Corbin, Jackie Wheeler and her finance, David Birdwell; and Vonda and Tony Derman, all of Columbia, KY

  • Five sons and spouses: Marshall, Jr., and Sandra Wheeler; Mark and Cindy Wheeler; Marty Wheeler, Matthew and Crystal Wheeler, and Mickey Joe Wheeler, all of Columbia, KY

  • Three sisters: Geloyce Edwards, Hardyville, KY; Evelyn Holland, Chicago, IL; and Dottie Corbin, Columbia, KY

  • And 20 grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren, and two great grandchildren
Mr. Wheeler was preceded in death by two children, Lois Jean and Michael Lynn Wheeler, and by three brothers and two sisters: Dixie Ray, Billy and Simon Jr. Wheeler, Wilda Cape, and Mary Corbin.

Visitation will be after 3pm, Tuesday, March 6, 2007, at Grissom Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville ST, Columbia, KY.

Grissom Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
