Judge, Mayor proclaim Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Week Adair County Judge-Executive Ann Melton and Columbia Mayor Pat Bell, Mayor, City of Columbia, signed a proclamation Tuesday afternoon, February 27, 2007, at 1:30pm in the basement of the Adair Annex proclaiming the month of March 2007 as "Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Week." Present for the ceremony were four whose family's have been affected by the disease: Lynda McKinley, Donna Feese, Kim Keltner, and Donna Green. Additional activities will be announced, Lynda McKinley, chairman of the campaign in Adair County, said. PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, in its quest to end the devastating effects of Multiple Sclerosis (MS) for over 60 years, the National Multip0le Sclerosis Society is the one thing people with MS can count on; and WHEREAS, as the most common disabling neurological disease of young adults in the United States and particularly in Kentucky, Multiple Sclerosis affects 450,000 people nationwide; and WHEREAS, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society wil have provided over $500 million for research and fellowship grants during the past six decades, as well as a wide range of client services in the areas of health, knowledge, and independence through its fifty-state network of chapters and its home office; and WHEREAS, while research advances have brought us closer to finding the cure, prevention, and cause of Multiple Sclerosis, much remains to be done and services must continue to be provided to those who live with the disease; NOW, THEREFORE, WE, ANN MELTON, Judge/Executive of Adair County, and PAT BELL, Mayor, City of Columbia, do hereby proclaim the month of March to be: MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS AWARENESS MONTHDone this 27th of February, 2007.s/Ann Melton, Judge-Executive, Adair County s/Pat Mell, Mayor, City of Columbia This story was posted on 2007-02-27 14:53:12
