Obituary: James Tyler Tupman, 84, Columbia businessman

He was a member of a prominent Adair Co. family and a dedicated leader in the Christian Church

James Tyler Tupman, Jr., "J.T.," 84, son of Tyler and Margaret Caldwell Tupman, departed this life February 19, 2007, at Pattie A. Clay Hospital, Richmond, KY.

The funeral service will be Monday, February 26, 2007, at 11:00am CT, at Grissom Funeral Home, with Bro. Raymond Martin and Bro. Terry White officiating.



He worked for Ford and Son Paving, Tompkinsville, KY, and was self-employed as J.T. Tupman Lime. He was a long-time member of the Columbia Christian Church and was an active member of the Men for Christ. He was a director and volunteer at White Mills Christian Church Camp. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and making furniture in his spare time.

Survivors include:
  • His sons: Benjamin T. Tupman, Lawrenceburg, KY; Robert A. (Margie) Tupman of Berea

  • Two grandchildren: Andrew T. Tupman, Lexington, KY; and Heather D. Tupman, Versailles, KY.

  • One great grandchild: Christopher (C.J.) Tupman

  • Two brothers: Billy Joe (Carol) Tupman, Jamestown, KY; and Donald Tupman, Louisville, KY

  • Four sisters: Ruby (Joe Russell) Barbee of Columbia, KY; Dorothy McClung of Warner Robbins, GA; Jessie (James E. Shirley of Columbia, KY; and Ina Dee Durham of Greensburg, KY
The funeral service will be Monday, February 26, 2007, at 11:00am CT, at Grissom Funeral Home, with Bro. Raymond Martin and Bro. Terry White officiating.

Burial will be in Columbia Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 4:00pm CT, Sunday, February 25, 2007, at Grissom Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville ST, Columbia, KY.

Memorials are suggested to either White Mills Camp or to Columbia Christian Church Building Fund.

Grissom Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
