Corps finally sends one (1) dam map to Adair Library

Adair Library Director puzzled at the Corps' attitude toward Adair County, but happy that a a small amount of vital information is now available: A single map showing the part of Adair County which would be flooded if Wolf Creek Dam breaks

Lee Ann Jessee, Director of the Adair County Public Library, said that the Corps of Engineers has finally sent a copy of the map of the Adair County area which would likely be flooded within three hours of a Wolf Creek Dam failure and that it is now available for viewing there.

"After many attempts I have finally secured a map of the area of Adair County that could be affected if Wolf Creek Dam fails. I was told by the Corps office in Louisville that we cannot have access to the Cumberland County maps or any other areas except Adair County," she added. "I have exhausted every avenue that I know!" she added.

The Corps placed a number of restrictions on the viewing of the maps, she said. "They cannot be copied or photographed, for instance," she said. "Those are their rules, not our rules."

She added that, so far, the Corps has refused her requests for a complete set of the maps. "The Corps told me that people can make an appointment at the Somerset office to see the maps if they cannot get to their local library."

Further, she said, "The strange thing is that these maps have been out since July of last year! I am not sure, and Greg Thomas (Adair County Emergency Management Director) is not sure why this map was not sent to the library then."

The complete maps are available at the Cumberland County Library in Burkesville and at local libraries in most of the other Lake Cumberland area towns.
