Earthworks of Kentucky was the lowest of eight bids submitted for the tear-out of the Grassy Springs Bridge, and has been awarded the contract.

Administrative Assistant Lisa Lee of Judge-Executive's office said a tentative start of the tear-out is Monday, February 26, 2007. "Judge Melton will announce the road closure and the alternate routes in enough time to give people a fair warning," she said. "So they can plan the best routes while the bridge is closed."

The bids received were well in-line with expections according to Lee. "Judge Melton was very pleased," Lee said.

A check for the bridge work has not arrived, but is expected any day, Lee said.

The bids were as follows:
  1. Earthworks of Kentucky, $2,900.00
  2. Kimbler's Backhoe, $3,000.00
  3. Kerr Construction Co., $3,439.00
  4. Abrell Poured Walls, $3,800.00
  5. Spoon & Co., $3,849.00
  6. Ivan Greer Construction, $4,850.00
  7. B&B Construction, $5,750.00
  8. Garrison Construction, $6,850.00
Because the project was under $20,000, Lee said, additional Fiscal Court approval was not needed to award the work and speed the project to completion. The actual construction of the bridge will be done by Superintendent Jobe Darnell and the Adair County Road Department.
