Renaissance Columbia application for $100,000 grant advances This item is now also part of the full report on Fiscal Court's February meeting. To read the entire account of the Tuesday, February 13, 2007 regular meeting of Adair Fiscal Court, Click Here By Ed Waggener Benton Fudge, representative of Renaissance Columbia, obtained an endorsement from the Adair Fiscal Court to help obtain a Southern and Eastern Kentucky Tourism Development Association (SEKTDA) $100,000 grant for Downtown Columbia. Three of the grants will be made within SEKTDA's 41 counties, Mr. Fudge told the court, and added, "I think the odds are good." He said that many of the counties don't have qualifying groups like Renaissance Columbia does, or else they (the other communities) don't have the interest." Among the uses for the money, Mr. Fudge listed the following:
Mr. Fudge said that Renaissance Columbia said he had talked with Judge Melton about the idea of the County, the City of Columbia, and the Chamber working on joint projects such as this one. The Court voted 7-0 to endorse the application. Tiffany Hadley, who brought the idea before Renaissance Columbia and who presented the proposal to the Columbia City Council at its February meeting, won the City's unanimous endorsement of the proposal, as well. Mr. Fudge said he couldn't guarantee success, but, "It's worth a shot," he said. This story was posted on 2007-02-15 12:20:40
