LWC, CU, join forces in cancer fight Third annual Cancer Awareness Classic baseball tournament, February 22-25, 2007, will raise funds for American Cancer Society By Emily Harlan, Lindsey Wilson College staff writer COLUMBIA, KY - The Lindsey Wilson College baseball team will join forces with Campbellsville University the weekend of Feb. 22-25 to raise money for the Cancer Awareness Society. The schools will host the third-annual Cancer Awareness Classic, in which eight NAIA baseball teams will compete in a tournament held at Lindsey Wilson College, Campbellsville University and Taylor County High School. Cancer survivors or family members of cancer victims or survivors will throw out the ceremonial first pitch of each game. The teams and special guests will attend an education banquet Friday, February 23, at Lindsey Wilson's Roberta D. Cranmer Dining & Conference Center. Dean Adams, Lindsey Wilson's vice president of student services and enrollment management and a 1978 alumnus, will be the guest speaker. Lindsey Wilson head baseball coach Mike Talley said the program, as well as cancer awareness, has continued to improve since the Cancer Awareness Classic began in 2005. "In 2005, the tournament and banquet raised $500 for the American Cancer Society and five baseball teams competed," Talley said. "This year, we raised $2,000, eight teams will play 20 games on three fields over four days and we have reservations for 200 for Friday evening's banquet. "Our goal is to raise awareness. Too often, we go through life thinking that we have a long life ahead of us, but cancer has no prejudices. It can strike any age, race, social class or gender." In addition to Lindsey Wilson and Campbellsville, the other teams competing in the classic are: Walsh University (Canton, OH); Siena Heights (Adrian, MI); Spring Arbor (Spring Arbor, MI); University of Rio Grande (Rio Grande, OH); Urbana University (Urbana, OH); and Malone College (Canton, OH) Schedule for the Cancer Awareness Classic All events Central time Thursday, February 22, 2007 Malone vs. Lindsey Wilson at Campbellsville University, 11:30am CT Malone vs. Campbellsville at Campbellsville University, 2:00pm CT Friday, February 23, 2007 Spring Arbor vs. Walsh at Lindsey Wilson College, 9:00am CT Spring Arbor vs. Lindsey Wilson at Lindsey Wilson College, 11:30am CT Walsh vs. Lindsey Wilson at Lindsey Wilson College, 2:00pm CT Malone vs. Seina at Campbellsville University, 9:00am CT Siena vs. Campbellsville at Campbellsville University, 11:30am CT Malone vs. Campbellsville at Campbellsville University, 2:00pm CT Saturday, February 24, 2007 Siena vs. Spring Arbor at Lindsey Wilson College, 9:00am CT Spring Arbor vs. Lindsey Wilson at Lindsey Wilson College, 11:30am CT Siena vs. Lindsey Wilson at Lindsey Wilson College, 2:00pm CT Walsh vs. Urbana at Campbellsville University, 9:00am CT Walsh vs. Campbellsville at Campbellsville University, 11:30am CT Urbana vs. Campbellsville at Campbellsville University, 2:00pm CT Rio Grande vs. Malone at Taylor County High School, 11:30am CT Malone vs. Rio Grande at Taylor County High School, 2:00pm CT Sunday, February 25, 2007 Urbana vs. Siena at Lindsey Wilson College, 9:00am CT Urbana vs. Lindsey Wilson at Lindsey Wilson College, 11:30am CT Rio Grande vs. Walsh at Taylor County High School, 9:00am CT Rio Grande vs. Campbellsville at Taylor County High School, 11:30am CT To donate to the American Cancer Society, please make out a check to the American Cancer Society, and mail to 210 Lindsey Wilson Street, c/o Mike Talley, Columbia, KY 42728.
