Liturgical art on display at Begley through Feb. 27, 2007

Reception for artist is Friday at 4:00pm

Liturgical artworks are now on display at Lindsey Wilson College.

The exhibit, "Margaret van Hook Swayze: A Retrospective," features works by Margaret van Hook Swayze. The show is on display in the Lucretia C. Begley Gallery in the W. W. Slider Humanities Center through February 27, 2007.



A public reception will be held at 4:00pm CT on Friday, February 19, followed by a presentation by Hook Swayze at 5:30pm CT in W. W. Slider Humanities Center Recital Hall. It is free and open to the public.

"Margaret van Hook Swayze: A Retrospective" includes oil watercolor paintings, stained glass windows and ink drawings. Every piece has a Christian-based theme, including the crucifixion of Jesus, the battle between good and evil in the biblical book of Revelation and Jesus humanity.

Hook Swayze worked in Atlanta, GA, as an interior designer and painter in the 1950s. She was first commissioned by her church to design stained glass in 1975. She created 80 pieces for the church.

Hook Swayze has since designed pieces for the church, individuals and organizations.

She recently created a window for Lindsey Wilson College's Jim & Helen Lee Fugitte Science Center entitled "Science is a Window on the World."

Hook Swayze liturgical art on display at Lucretia Begley Gallery

Margaret van Hook Swayze's "The Four Horsemen" represents the battle between good and evil in the biblical book of Revelation. Hook Swayzes display consists of liturgical pieces.

The Lucretia C. Begley Gallery is open to the public from 8:00am -4:00pm CT Monday- Friday. The Hook-Swayze display runs through February 27.
