Scenic Adair County: Appen Avenue in Snow

In a real snowstorm, and after, the hill on Appen Avenue can be the biggest challenge in Columbia. This morning, the Columbia trash pick up service was having no troubling climbing it. Appen Avenue remains one of the prettiest residential streets in Columbia, over a half-century after the first homes were built there for top level engineers and executives of the Jones and Wright Construction Companies, who lived there while Wolf Creek Dam was being constructed. The subdivision was constructed because of the quality, then of the Columbia graded and high schools, and for proximity to Lindsey Training School and Lindsey Wilson Junior College. Councillor Edwin Taylor, a long time resident, calls the subdivision "Columbia's best kept secret."

Enough snow for kids to have a blast!

Easton, 6, and Grayson, 2, Downs enjoyed a day of sledding. Although there wasnt a lot of snow, they still had a blast in their first snow of 2007! They are the children of Chris and Kim Downs.
