LWC basetball at Pikeville, hosts Georgetown

By Chris Wells, Lindsey Wilson College Sports Information Directory

COLUMBIA, KY -- The rugged Mid-South Conference reared its ugly head last week and the Lindsey Wilson College men's and women's basketball teams combined to win just one of four games.

Lindsey Wilson has little time to dwell on the past as the Blue Raiders travel to Pikeville (KY) College on Thursday night and host Georgetown (KY) College on Saturday at Biggers Sports Center. Both are men's and women's doubleheaders.

The Lindsey Wilson women (8-15) -- who are tied atop the Mid-South with a 2-1 league record -- face winless Pikeville (7-15, 0-3) at 5:00pm CT on Thursday night. The Blue Raiders enter the game with a five-game winning streak against the Lady Bears, including three wins last season.

The Blue Raiders conclude the first visit through the Mid-South Conference schedule at 2:00pm CT on Saturday, when they face No. 17-ranked Georgetown (16-6, 2-1) at Biggers Sports Center. Lindsey Wilson lost two of three games with the Lady Tigers last season, including a 74-59 loss in the MSC Tournament.

"Every conference has proven to very intense and incredibly tough," Lindsey Wilson women's basketball coach John B. Wethington said. "We're in a good position right now, but the ladies understand that you have to remain focused for the full 40 minutes if you want to win in this conference."

Lindsey Wilson enters the week with wins over No. 7-ranked University of the Cumberlands (KY) (70-64) and Campbellsville (KY) University (70-56). The Blue Raiders dropped their lone conference loss on Saturday at West Virginia Tech (58-66).

In addition to battling Pikeville and Georgetown this week, the Lindsey Wilson men's basketball team is battling a different foe: the injury bug.

Lindsey Wilson lost starting guard Jeremy Johnson for potentially a month in last week's 64-55 loss to Campbellsville. All-American candidate Lloyd Lewis also injured his ankle during the same game and starting point guard Brandon Adams suffered an injury in Saturday's 59-57 loss at West Virginia Tech.

"It's hard anytime you go into a game short-handed," LWC men's basketball coach Paul Peck said. "But we're confident in the players we have and we're depending on to carry us through this rough patch."

Lindsey Wilson (16-5, 1-2) travels to Pikeville (9-12, 1-2) for a 7 p.m. CST tip at the Expo Center in downtown Pikeville. Lindsey Wilson has won eight straight in the series, including a 77-56 decision last season at the Expo Center.

Following Thursday night's game, the Blue Raiders return home to host No. 5-ranked and conference front-runner Georgetown (19-3, 3-0) at Biggers. The two teams split a pair of games last season, each winning at home.

Both men's games will be carried live on WAIN with the pre-game beginning 30 minutes prior to tip-off.
