Emily Griffitt Anderson murder case: Jan. 4, 2006 update Link to January 3, 2007, Lenoir, NC News-Topic story "Anderson files change of venue" below There is a new development in the Emily Griffitt Anderson murder case, reported by Joshua Harris in the News Topic of Lenoir, NC, where the trial of Jerry Anderson, the husband of the murdered Emily Griffitt Anderson, is expected to begin in May 2007. The story lawyers for Jerry Anderson are asking for a change of venue, citing prejudice against the defendant in Caldwell County (Lenoir) NC. Emily Griffitt Anderson was the daughter of Dr. Joseph and Amanda Waterson Griffitt. She grew up in the big white house at 519 Burkesville ST in Columbia, KY, with brother Mike and sister Dee. The family made thousands of friends in Adair County. Dr. Griffitt was a physician who worked with the Adair County Health Department during his stay here. Emily Griffitt Anderson had been employed in Columbia within the past few years, during which time she lived at Cane Valley. She had moved to North Carolina to operate a dairy farm, where she was living at the time of her abduction. She was reported missing by her husband on December 29, 2005. Her body was found on January 7, 2006, in a truck parked in a Waffle House Parking lot in South Carolina. A memorial service was held for her in Cane Valley on January 12, following a funeral service in North Carolina one day earlier. Jerry Anderson attended the service in Adair County, but one month and one day later, on February 13, 2005, Jerry Anderson was indicted for Emily Griffitt Anderson's murder. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty in the case.
