Obituary: Wallace Elza Johnson, 89, WW II veteran

Mr. Johnson was the head of a large, respected Adair County family; he leaves 52 living descendants. He was former heavy equipment operator. Military honors by VFW Post 6097

Wallace Elza Johnson, 89, Blackberry Lane, Columbia, KY, died Saturday, December 30, 2005, at 7:34am, at the University of Louisville Hospital in Louisville, KY.

The funeral service will be Monday, January 1, 2007, at 1:00pm CT, at Grissom Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville ST, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Calvin Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Bearwallow Cemetery with military honors by Columbia VFW Post 6097.



He was a son of the late Robert and Kitty Fannnie Bailey Johnson.

Mr. Johnson was a US Army Veteran of World War II, a member of VFW Post 6097, and a former heavy equipment operator.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Odella Burton Johnson, in 1991; by two grandchildren and three brothers, Walker, Paul, and Lee Bolin Johnson.

He is survived by the following:
  • Seven children: Bobby Clem Johnson, Sharon Johnson, George Johnson, and Ruby Pike, all of Columbia, KY; Lee (Hester) Johnson and Tommy Johnson, both of Louisville, KY; and Paulette (Jr.) Bray, Russell Springs, KY;

  • Three brothers: Charles and Coleman Johnson, both of New Albany, IN; and James Johnson, Michigan

  • One sister: Marjorie Yarberry, New Albany, IN

  • And 19 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren
Visitation will be after 4:00pm, Sunday, December 31, 2006, at Grissom Funeral Home, Columbia, KY.
Grissom Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
