TRAFFIC & DRIVING:
The most dangerous area to drive right now may be down south on KY 61 to the new interchange as drivers learn the road. Those of the Ancients who remember when KY 55 to Campbellsville was first untwisted have memories of a high number of fatalities in the first few months of it's opening.

It seems to take a while to judge the faster speed of traffic. For one thing, on the new road, it isn't yet clear where the speeds change. The first 35 MPH sign is well into the residential section of The Pike, and 55 seems too fast to drive into town past the First Baptist Church. Coming north downslope through the Grider Hill Pass, one can gain awesome velocity. That's a steep grade.

Besides that, there's no visible sign that you are in the jurisdiction of the Columbia PD and you don't know where a radar gun might be lurking. Best bet: P'like you're afraid of getting hit by a deer. That will keep your mind on traffic safety, even though hunters have reduced the deer menace by 986 thus far in 2007, according to the Kentucky Fish & Wildlife folks.

Promote Eastern Bypass: Might be time to suggest the Governor use part of the surplus revenue to build the road many think should have been built first, the relatively short Eastern Bypass.
