Turtle Man highlight of 2006 Kentucky Afield Show about Marion County sportsman gets producers' nod Frankfort, KY - "Kentucky Afield" TV sticks a fork in 2006 with some of the more colorful characters from the past year. Producers have hand-picked the Turtle Man, Elvis the coon dog, and other highlights of an award winning year to air this weekend, December 30 and 31, 2006 on KET. The nation's longest-running outdoor television show, "Kentucky Afield" travels to Marion County with Ernie Brown, Jr., better known as the Turtle Man. It takes a special touch to catch a turtle by the tail and this man is touched. In Shelby County, Elvis proves that he isn't anything but a hound dog as he turns Graceland into Chaseland. This coon dog trains on a treadmill and shows off other tricks to steal the show. Also, smallmouth bass means fishing is king on Dale Hollow Lake. Guide Randall Gibson hooks a keeper on every cast. "We end the year the same way it started, by showing tons of fun in Kentucky's outdoors," says executive producer Scott Moore. "Our show first aired in 1953 when hunting and angling were much more common. Today, too many people reach for a remote than a fishing pole. But our show reminds us all that wildlife-related recreation is still a great passion for a great many and we hope you"ll be one of them in 2007." "Kentucky Afield" is a production of the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources. "Kentucky Afield" airs Saturday at 8:30pm ET/7:30pm CT and is repeated on Sunday at 4:00pm ET/3:00pm CT on KET. Check local listings. This story was posted on 2006-12-28 08:30:15
