The end of the 2006 fall semester brought a new challenge to Lindsey Wilson College Dean of the Chapel Terry Swan. When the fall semester came to an end last week, Swan traded in his role of college professor for the role of counselor in the U.S. military.

Swan was mobilized earlier this month to active duty in the U.S. Army Reserve. Swan, who is a colonel in the Army Reserve, will spend 179 days at nearby Fort Knox, Ky., working as a counselor and chaplain for the U.S. army. He will be part of a behavioral health team at the Army base.

Swan, who teaches psychology and religion at Lindsey Wilson, has published numerous articles and books about counseling.

"It's an exciting opportunity for me to serve my country," said Swan, a resident of Campbellsville, KY, who has been a member of the Lindsey Wilson faculty since 1985. "I'm looking forward to these new challenges and the chance help our nation's military in a small way."

Swan has published 10 books including# What in the World Am I Doing Here? The Christian Faith and Personal Mission and The Balance Book.
