Smith Christmas Challenge exceeding all expectations

Fund raisers for the Smith Christmas Challenge report that the results are exceeding everyone's expectations. Chad Parnell reported that Saturday's auction was a great success neting over $12,000 and adding that to funds already collected plus money brought in from Adair County churches over the weekend, the total is well over $30,000. More details are expected tomorrow.

Smith Christmas Challenge: Fund goes over $35,000

Clifton Cowan and Matthew Cowan, Rebecca Smiths father and brother, received a $35,000 check from several Adair County Beta members and ACHS staff at the chili supper and auction Saturday, December 16, 2006. Rebecca Smith, Walker Smith's mother, was unable to attend Saturday night because she was with Walker in St. Louis. Her father and brother came on her behalf. Her father opened the chili supper with some words, saying, It is very touching moment for us all." Funds are still being accepted for the family.

Smith Christmas Challenge: BETA members made it happen

Beta members at the Smith Christmas Challenge chili supper Saturday night were, from left, Katie LaVictorie, Megan White, Samantha Hall, Matt Downen, and Laura Walker. At the end of the event the challenge had raised over $35,000. The Beta Club at Adair County High School organized the drive, one of the most successful in Adair County History.
