TRAFFIC & DRIVING: Light court may mean easier driving and parking around Downtown today. Still everyone needs to be forwarned to keep an escape handy anytime in they're driving Columbia Streets. Friday, a USPS delivery driver was heard to tell the driver of one of the brown trucks that he'd better not make the turn from E. Guardian onto Burkesville ST. "It's complete gridlock," he said. Regretfully, the ColumbiaMagazine.com autogyro, if we did have ary one, wasn't available for aerial shots. But you can picture it. The UPS driver turned his brown truck around in Dr. Downey's parking lot. Construction: The unofficial word: Maybe. Maybe sometime today, two lanes will be open over new KY 61 over Grider Hill. (One fellow said yesterday that he'd been riding it for a month. Didn't say whether per pickup or Kawasaki.) Paving on the two lanes looks to be complete, and barrels are up to outline the lanes available. Here's the official word we got about the opening of the new highway and interchange on Monday, December 11, 2006, from Stephanie Daffron at the Somerset District Office in Somerset: 1) Ramps will probably be open to traffic in next week or so. Still finishing some guardrail items. 2) KY 61 Mainline will not be totally complete until next spring, when the final surface course can be laid. 3) The new portion of KY61 just south of Columbia will possibly be open to traffic next week.
