Eastbound traffic on the Louie B. Nunn continues to bere-routed after a semi-truck overturned at 4:30am CT, Friday morning, December 15, 2006, near Mile Marker 48.

The truck was operated by Brown Food Service, Louisa, KY.

At the time of this posting, dozens of Kentucky Transportation Cabinet workers, the Kentucky State Police, The Columbia Fire Department, Deputy Kentucky State Fire Marshal Charles Sparks, and a towing service on standby are on the scene. A.L. Sinclair, Adair County Solid Waste Coordinator, diverted his crews' activities to the site to assist in the cleanup.

According to Sinclair, the driver of the truck swerved to avoid a deer, with disastrous results, although no injuries resulted. Clean-up and removal trucks are now on the eastbound bridge over Petty's Fork. The truck is to the west of the bridge.

There was some gas leakage at the scene, Adair County Emergency Management Coordinator Greg Thomas reported. "When the truck was being up righted, the saddle tanks began leaking diesel fuel. Reports are the tanks held less than 100 gallons of fuel."

During taking of report, Coordinator Thomas said, Dispatcher Adams of Kentucky State Police Post 15 was called and advised the spill has stopped and there is no waterway involvement.

After the accident, traffic flow was changed while the truck's cargo was checked for hazardous material. Dispatcher Stacy Estes said that the truck is carrying non-hazadous household bleach in bottles, and that no danger to the public from other hazmats occurred.

The re-routing took eastbound traffic off the eastbound ramp at the LBN/KY 61 interchange and then through Columbia, KY.

Dispatcher Estes said was uprighted shortly after 7:30am this morning. Workers on the scene at 8:15am thought it would take another hour to an hour and 30 minutes to restore normal traffic flow.
