Biggers Sports Center will be a busy place this weekend at Lindsey Wilson College.

More than 2,000 guests and students will be on campus this weekend to attend a men's basketball game on Friday afternoon and then the college's third winter commencement Saturday afternoon.

The No. 7-ranked Lindsey Wilson Blue Raiders play East-West (IL) University at 2pm CT on Friday, December 15, 2006, in Biggers Sports Center. Admission to the game is free.

Then less than 24 hours after the game ends, Biggers will be transformed by the college's physical plant division so it can hold commencement exercises for December graduates. Winter commencement will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, December 16.

Lindsey Wilson will confer a total of 259 graduate and undergraduate degrees Saturday afternoon, the largest winter class the college has graduated.

Vice President Adams will deliver commencement address

Vice President of Student Services and Enrollment Management Dean Adams will give the commencement address, and Kentucky Congressman Harold "Hal" Rogers will be honored by the Lindsey Wilson Board of Trustees with an honorary doctorate of laws for his more than 30 years of service to the commonwealth.

Last month, Rogers was re-elected overwhelmingly to an unprecedented 14th term as representative of Kentucky's Fifth Congressional District, making him the longest-serving Kentucky Republican elected to federal office.

Johnathan Conover will direct transformation of Biggers

Custodian Johathan Conover is in charge of preparing Biggers Sports Center for this weekend's crowds.

"There is a very busy transformation from a basketball court to a commencement area," Conover said.

The transformation requires most of the college's plant staff to put up tables, put down floor mats, set up chairs, and assemble the stage, banners and risers.

"Every employee knows what he or she is doing -- the actual work itself is the most difficult part of the weekend," Conover said. "But it's all for the graduates. Seeing the excitement of the people involved is worth the effort."

Chief Vickery's Public Safety Department will be busy

Lindsey Wilson Chief of Public Safety Darwin Vickery said his department also will be a bit busier than usual during the weekend.

"There will be much more traffic on campus, and we'll accommodate the handicap and elderly to get them parking spots as close as possible to the front doors of Biggers Sports Center," Vickery said. "We'll be busier as far as parking cars, but we'll try to please everybody."
