TRAFFIC & DRIVING: School buses are running today. Downtown Columbia will be impacted by a heavy court day.
As if fear of hitting a deer and totalling your car; running over a skunk and finding that absolutely no car wash in Adair County gives a tomato juice wash, or of striking a bear, making him mad, and you getting et by the bear when your car is immobilized - if those phobias weren't enough - well now, there a new worry for Adair Countians travelling east five or six counties: Hitting an elk. Click Here to read more about the perils of hitting an elk. It's on the Kentucky Fish & Wildlife website.

But rest a little easier about the deer. There are, to date in 2006, 942 fewer deer in Adair County to endanger motorists. That's how many deer hunters harvested this year. In all of 2005, 941 deer were taken by hunters in Adair County, the Kentucky Fish & Wildlife website says.

Construction: Yesterday the ramps on the east side of the interchange did not have "Road Closed" signs. Here's the official word we got about the opening of the new highway and interchange on Monday, December 11, 2006, from Stephanie Daffron at the Somerset District Office in Somerset: 1) Ramps will probably be open to traffic in next week or so. Still finishing some guardrail items. 2) KY 61 Mainline will not be totally complete until next spring, when the final surface course can be laid. 3) The new portion of KY61 just south of Columbia will possibly be open to traffic next week. (Numerals ours)
