At Begley Gallery: Andrew Parson metal sculpture Exhibit of "Motion and Movement," metal sculpture on display through December 20, 2006 With one photograph By Emily Harlan, Lindsey Wilson College staff writer Art works by art senior Andrew Parson of Greensburg, KY, are now on display at Lindsey Wilson College. The exhibit, "Motion and Movement," features metal sculpture works. The show is on display from 8am to 4pm CT in the Lucretia C. Begley Gallery in the W. W. Slider Humanities Center through December 20, 2006. Parson welded metal materials into sculptures that show the beauty of motion. Parson said his works were constantly changing as he put together his art exhibit. "I was trying to find different ways to achieve movement and fluidity," Parson said. "Its a challenge. After I'd finished a piece, my professor would ask me if the piece really achieved its purpose, so a lot of times I'd have to take it back and work at it. "The pieces change so much. You start to find your style, and you try to find something to work with that fits that style." The ever-changing nature of Parson's exhibit also reflects the artists stylistic progression over his college career. Parson said he was interested in drawing as a freshman, but his interest developed into "making drawings a reality" through metal works and sculptures. "Art is a tool I use to learn how to improve my craftsmanship," he said. Parsons art isn't limited to the classroom. He applies his knowledge to building soap boxes for derby races, buggies and deer stands. He also works as a carpenter. "I hope that when people see my show, they think its good craftsmanship," Parson said. The Lucretia C. Begley Gallery is open to the public from 8am -4pm CT, Monday- Friday. The exhibit runs through December 20, 2006. This story was posted on 2006-12-07 04:42:54
