LWC to confer 259 degrees at 3rd winter graduation

Ceremony will be 84th overall commencement in college's 103-year history

By Duane Bonifer, Director of Public Affairs, Lindsey Wilson College

More than 250 Lindsey Wilson College students and their families will participate in the college's largest winter commencement ceremony on Saturday, December 16, 2006

The Lindsey Wilson community will hold commencement exercises for the December portion of its Class of 2007 at 1 p.m. CST on Saturday, Dec. 16, in Biggers Sports Center. Lindsey Wilson will confer a total of 259 graduate and undergraduate degrees at the Dec. 16 ceremony, the largest winter class the college has graduated.

It is the third winter commencement and 84th overall commencement in Lindsey Wilson's 103-year history.

"For the third consecutive year, we have so many students receiving an undergraduate or graduate degree from Lindsey Wilson that we have been forced to hold two commencement ceremonies during the school year," said Lindsey Wilson President William T. Luckey Jr. "This month's December commencement is another reminder of how much this college has grown in a relatively short amount of time."

To put this December's winter commencement in perspective, this year's winter class would have been the third largest overall graduating class before Lindsey Wilson split its graduating class into a winter and spring commencement.

"What's most exciting about the size of this year's winter commencement class is that Lindsey Wilson continues to help the commonwealth of Kentucky produce more college graduates," Luckey said. "Historically, more than 80 percent of our students remain in Kentucky after graduation, which adds a great deal to our commonwealth's overall quality of life."

The 2006 winter commencement speaker will be Dean Adams, vice president of student services and enrollment management. A 1978 Lindsey Wilson alumnus, Adams has served Lindsey Wilson for more than 15 years. As vice president of student services and enrollment, he oversees a division of more than 75 staff members, which includes admissions, athletics, residence life and student activities.

Adams hold a bachelor's degree in physical education, a master's degree in secondary education and a doctorate in higher education administration. He is active in several community organizations, and he is a former chair of the Columbia-Adair County Industrial Board.
Following winter commencement, the Lindsey Wilson National Alumni Association will hold a reception for graduates and their guests. The reception will be held in the Roberta D. Cranmer Dining & Conference Center. For more information, contact the Lindsey Wilson Alumni Office at (270) 384-8400 or info@lindsey.edu.
