Fred Corbin airlifted to UL following accident

Alfred Corbin treated at Westlake for neck injuries. Two Corbin vehicles stopped to make turn onto KY 551 from Campbellsville Road when third vehicle strikes rear of one, causing chain reaction

A three-vehicle accident at the intersection of KY 55 & KY 551 resulted in injuries to drivers Alfred Corbin, 75, and Fred Corbin, 57, both of Columbia, KY.

The accident occurred at just past noon, at 12:33pm CT, Tuesday, November 28, 2006.

Fred Corbin was treated at Westlake Regional Hospital (WRH), Columbia, KY, and flown from there to the University of Louisville Hospital.

Alfred Corbin was treated at WRH, Columbia, for neck injuries.



Alfred Corbin was stationary in a 1998 Chevrolet Pickup, in the southbound lane, waiting to make a left turn onto KY 551.

Fred Corbin was stationary, in a 1989 GMC pickup, behind the Alfred Corbin vehicle.

James Clark, 45, Clarkstown, was traveling south in a 2001 Freightliner and was able to stop. He vehicle struck the Fred Corbin truck, which, in turn, struck the Alfred Corbin pickup.

Clark was not injured. All three occupants were belted.

Trooper Andy Olson of Kentucky State Police Post 15, Columbia, KY, investigated the accident.

First Responders from many services were on hand to work the spectacular chain reaction accident which occurred just after noon on Tuesday, November 28, 2006. This scene shows the semi which struck the blue and white pickup driven by Fred Corbin; the third vehicle driven by Alfred Corbin would be in front of the Freddie Corbin vehicle. The view is toward the south. Among those visible in the photo are KSP Trooper Andy Olson, Adair County Sheriff's Office Deputy Burton, Rescue Squad Member Jason Wooten, ACRS Chief Taylor, and Deputy State Fire Marshall Charles Sparks.

Noon time crash on KY 55

The three vehicles involved in the noon chain reaction accident looked like this after occupants were removed. In the front is the pickup driven by Alfred Corbin, Columbia, KY; sandwiched between is the pickup driven by Fred Corbin, also of Columbia; and in back, the semi trailer driven by James Clark. Alfred Corbiin was treated for neck injuries at Westlake. Fred Corbin was treated at Westlake and then airlifted to UL Hospital, Louisville. Members of Adair County Rescue Squad can be seen at right. ACRS Chief Wendell Taylor and Lt. Jerry Rector can be seen in the right hand side of the photo. ACRS provided extrication of Freddie Corbin and assisted the Adair County EMS.
