Adair Veterans List update November 24, 2006

Daniel Gadberry sends report of a John Adair students impression of I AM A SOLDIER

By Ed Waggener

Activity in the Veterans List was slow over Thanksgiving Day, but we did get one more name and a very interesting letter, which supports the growing realization that Howard Bailey's I AM A SOLDIER poem is having a tremendous impact.

The new name is now added, and both letters are printed below:

Daniel Gadberry wrote: Mr. Waggener, This was my mistake not yours. On our Grandpa and Great Grandpa's name, Odie R. "Bouncer" Burton's name being added to your Veteran's list, it should have said "Daniel, Hunter, and Kodie Gadberry." I failed to put the comma between Daniel and Hunter. Hunter was upset about it. He's only 8, but he is real big fan of this Veteran's list you have. He is in the third grade at JAES and when he heard the poem, I AM A SOLDIER, by Mr. Howard Bailey, it really impressed him. Hunter and Kodie never got to meet or know their Great Grandpa. Kodie Roy Gadberry was named for his Great Grandpa. Their Nanna, Ann Burton Murphy, printed the poem out for them after you printed it on ColumbiaMagaizine.com. Hunter knows it by heart now. The program his school had about this had a lasting effect on him. I'm sorry that I missed it. Thank you, Daniel Gadberry. Thanks for the beautiful letter. I think all corrections have been made, but if not, please let us know. We need all the help editing the list we can get!- ED

Nanna wrote: Please add Carol Wayne Bennett to your veterant's list. He served in Viet Nam.

Our thanks to everyone who has contributed to the list, and who have patiently worked to get corrections made when necessary.

The plan is to make the additions as received through November, then requests for additions will be archived for updates nearer to Memorial Day, 2007.
