G.R.A.W.L. November 2006 meeting report Pet Idol contest great. Membership lists published all three counties. Group now furnishing surgery room. High adoption rate. Pleas to vote for shelter in national poll. By Dr. Shantila F. Rexroat President of the Green River Animal Welfare League The Green River Animal Welfare League met Tuesday night, November 7th, 2006. We had a lot of good news and some great projects to talk about. Some of those are the following: In Adair County we have been having a pet idol contest in the Adair Progress. It is turning out to be an excellent fund raiser for needed equipment at the animal shelter. The contest is continuing this week, so don't forget to vote for you next pet idol. G.R.A.W.L. will be selling calenders soon with the top 14 pet idols representing the months of the year. Please call the animal shelter if you are interested in purchasing a calender. We hope to have similar contests in Metcalfe and Russell Counties in the coming months. The G.R.A.W.L. memberships have been published in all three counties and we hope to get a lot of new members. 100% of the membership fees/donations go toward purchasing items for the animal shelter. Our next goal is to furnish the surgery room at the animal shelter so that adopted pets may be spayed or neutered before they leave the shelter. Now that we have a place for unwanted pets the next step is for everyone to work toward spaying and neutering their pets or strays in their area to help control the overwhelming population of unwanted cats and dogs. Spaying and neutering is the only solution to the problem in the long term. Jeff Thomas, the director of the Green River Animal Shelter, is doing a fantastic job. He is keeping his adoption numbers very high. The percentage of dogs and cats adopted at our tri-county animal shelter remains higher that the national average. We are very excited about this fact. Jeff has had people come from as far as the Illinois/Wisconsin border to adopt animals at our shelter. He uses the petfinder website to get the animals pictures out there on the web and it works. States that Adair, Metcalfe and Russell County strays have gone to include; Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, and North Carolina. Your surrender fees continue to help us feed the animals at the shelter and keep a well trained staff to take excellent care of these animals. Vote for Green River Animal Shelter. Last but certainly not least, please go to hillspet.com/2ndchance to vote for you favorite animal shelter. Ours of course! The winner will get nice things for their animal shelter and the first 3000 voters get a freeT-shirt. So do what you can for this wonderful facility and the homeless bundles of fur that live there. Everything is deeply appreciated. This story was posted on 2006-11-13 14:07:32
