Over 400 kids at LWC Safe Halloween 2006 Three photos accompany this article By Emily Harlan, Lindsey WIlson College Staff writer COLUMBIA, KY - Lindsey Wilson College gave ghosts, cartoon characters and celebrities a safe Halloween Tuesday night. More than 400 children and their guardians participated in the 13th-annual Safe Halloween, held Tuesday, October 24, 2006. Lindsey Wilson students in the residence life and student activities programs dressed in Halloween costumes as they led children and their guardians on tours through decorated residence halls. Residents handed out candy to trick-or-treaters. Columbia resident Ryan Harris has brought her children to Safe Halloween four years in a row. She said it helps ease her worries surrounding the holiday, such as dangerous objects in candy or children getting lost. I love it, she said. Its great getting the community involved , and you dont have to worry about childrens safety. Harris son Anikin, who is in the first grade and came as cartoon character Buzz Lightyear, said his favorite part of the event is the candy - but admitted some of the Lindsey Wilson students costumes are intimidating. I was scared some, Harris said of a Lindsey Wilson students Scream costume. Harris friend, kindergartener Layndon Carter, wasnt scared in his Incredible Hulk costume. He came up to me and I didnt laugh or anything. Children and their guardians arent the only ones who have fun at Safe Halloween. Lindsey Wilson students enjoy participating in the evenings activities. Candace Cornelison, a middle school mathematics and English junior from Adair County, started a reading project at this years Safe Halloween. A lot of kids dont have fun, scary books at home or in school, so this is a good way for them to hear a story and drink some juice, said Cornelison, who dressed like a gypsy. The kids are having a blast. Their faces light up when youre reading certain books. This story was posted on 2006-10-25 14:30:31
