Over 150 participate in Breast Cancer Awareness March Photo(s) with story More than 150 people participated in the inaugural Adair County Breast Cancer Awareness March, held Wednesday afternoon in Columbia. The march began at Lindsey Wilson Colleges Catherine Wilson Center and ended in Columbia Downtown Square and featured testimonials by breast cancer survivors and their families. Speakers included March co-organizer Ellen Zornes, and Butch Wheatley, Betty Fisher, Jim Cook, Martha Martin, Rita Melton, Peggy Lawson and others. Breast cancer is the second-leading cause of cancer deaths among American women. "We are so grateful to everyone who supported this cause, to the donors, marchers, speakers and volunteers," said Catherine Wilson Center Director Wendy Benningfield, the events co-organizer. "We are grateful to Adair County for helping us raise awareness about breast cancer. "Today the residents of Adair County started something good, and I'm confident we will have another march next year.
