FEEDBACK: Memories kindled by news of Barnetts Creek re-union

Russell Overstreet remembers Barnetts Creek from United Brethren Days, the singing Riches, a great and rich Church family. Plans to be at the reunion

My father, Roy Overstreet, used to pastor Barnetts Creek, and Norman Chapel Church on 206 in Casey County, some 65 years ago. They were called The United Brethren Church at that time.

I have a brother, Raymond, who was named after Dewey Whitwel, and a sister, Ethel, who was named after Ethel King. Ethel King was also a nurse and delivered my sister Ethel into this world,

I'm 74 yrs old, but i can remember some of the people that kept this church alive.

I can remember the Rich Family, who always provided the singing; the Beatty family, the Doss and Blair Families. What a great and friendly Church family they had at Barnetts Creek! Hope to see a lot of people there.

-Russell Overstreet
Thanks for this note. This 113th Year Homecoming should be a great event. Barnett's Creek may be the most beautiful place on earth at this time of the year. The church has a wonderful pastor, another in a long line of distinguished ministers to serve the church; an outstanding congregation; and, of course, it has the Singing Rich Family. It would be hard to imagine the church without them. -Ed Waggener
Note: The reunion is Sunday, October 1, 2006. We hope someone will send digital photos to post on ColumbiaMagazine.com, in case Linda and I can't get there ourselves. To be reminded of this and other important happenings, click on Events in Quick Links.
