Wednesday, August 2, 2006The Columbia-Adair County Industrial Authority (CACIDA) will hold its monthly board meeting on Wednesday, August 2, 2006 at 6:00pm CT. at the Columbia-Adair County Chamber of Commerce Office, 201 Burkesville ST (corner of Burkesville and Fortune STs) Columbia, KY. The CACIDA board regular meetings are each first Wednesday. By statute, meetings are open to the public. Members of the board are Chairman Barry Corbin, and members Monica Rodgers, Barry Loy, Jason Corbin, Randy Nelson, and Mike Neal. The Executive director is Martin Jones, Bowling Green, KY, Phone 270-846-3469. The board has failed to have a quorum for several meetings recently. A note to board members from Katy Davis, Administrative Assistant, says, "If possible, could the board members send a reply concerning his/her attendance at the meeting? Thank you."

Monday, August 7, 2006 The Adair County Genealogical Society will not be holding their monthly meeting at the library in August. Instead, the meeting will take place at the home of Barbara Wright in Taylor County. She has an extensive collection of genealogical material and has agreed to let us browse her information. Meeting will take place at 5:30 p.m. (Columbia time), Monday, August 7, 2006. For more information contact me at 634-0717. Monday, August 7, 2006: The Adair County Meat Goat Association meets this evening at 6:00 p.m. Baa Land Farm Feeds on Jones Chapel Road hosts the meetings of the Adair County Meat Goat Association, whose regular monthly meetings are held on the first Monday, starting at 6:00 p.m. Open to members and parties interested in becoming a part of the Adair County goat industry.

Admission will be the cost of a non-perishable food item, with the food, camping, games, and prizes being free thanks to all of our sponsors. Saturday, August 12, 2006, at 11:00am CT A Columbia Adair County Chamber of Commerce sponsored ribbon cutting will be held at the original site of Jackman High School on Taylor ST, Columbia, KY. The ribbon cutting will be in conjunction with the dedication of a memorial rock, plaque, new flag pole, and landscaping. The public is invited to attend.

Saturday, August 12, 2006: The Fifth Annual Kentuckians Reading Kentuckians event will take place at the Giles House. The event starts at 10:00am and runs through 2:00pm CT. Sunday, August 13, 2006, starting at 3:00-7:00pm CT: The Cane Valley Christian Church is holding a Rally in the Valley. From 3-5:00pm there will be food and activities. From 5-6:00pm there will be contemporary Christian music for youth. From 6-7:00pm, the Gospel Choir will sing. Then at 7:00pm.there will be a watermelon cutting on the grounds. "Rally In the Valley is a program geared for all youth. If anyone is young in their mind they are welcome to come and enjoy. Sunday, August 13, 2006, at 7:00pm CT:The Columbia United Methodist Church, 202 Burkesville Street, invites everyone to a service of prayer for the Adair County School System. The evening will include prayers of thanksgiving for the Knifley, Sparksville and Shepherd Grade Centers and intercessory prayers for administrators, support staff, teachers, students and parents. The speaker will be Mayor George "Lisle" Cheatham II, Mayor of the City of Greensburg, KY, whose talk is entitled, "Secrets in Tourism Development/Green River Paddle Trail." Thursday, August 17, 2006 7:00pm CT:Councillor Charles Grimsley announced that the first Columbia Parks & Recreation Board meeting will be in the Adair County Annex Building basement meeting room. The board members are Richard Phelps, Donna Shirley, Charles Grimsley, David Herbst, and Greg Thomas. The meeting is open to the public, Mr. Grimsley said. Regular meetings will be each third Thursday at 7:00pm CT.

Friday, August 18, 2006, at 12:30pm CT: A Columbia-Adair County Chamber of Commerce sponsored ribbon cutting at the Bluegrass Cellular Office, 706 Russell Road, Columbia, KY. The event is open to the public.

Monday, August 21, 2006: Open House for all John Adair Intermediate School students and parents will be Monday, August 21, from 4:00 to 6:00pm CT. If possible, we would like for 3rd graders to come at 4:00pm CT, and 4th and 5th graders to come at 5:00pm CT. However, if your schedule does not allow this, please feel free to come at any time between the hours of 4:00-6:00pm CT. Class schedules will not be handed out until August 24, 2006, the first day of school. An announcement will be made when homeroom assignments are posted. A supplies list is posted at the school and local stores.

Monday, August 21, 2006: Adair County Middle School will be having Open House on Monday, August 21, from 4:00-7:00. Schedules and supply lists will be available at this time also. Monday, August 21, 2006. 6:00pm-8:00pm. Columbia-Adair County Chamber of Commerce and Lindsey Wilson College present Wares Fair at in Biggers Sports Center on the campus of Lindsey Wilson College. The event allows local Chamber Members to show Lindsey Wilson College students what services and goods are available from local businesses. Around 600 students are expected to attend.

Tuesday, August 22, 2006: Kentucky Congressman Ed Whitfield will be at Lindsey Wilson College at noon CT on Tuesday, August 22, 2006, to make a major announcement. Whitfield will make the announcement outside of the Fugitte Science Center's Cranmer Drive entrance. Following Whitfield's presentation, a public reception will be held in the Fugitte Science Center's lower-level lobby. Wednesday, August 23, 2006:,What may be one of the most significant events in Adair County history will take place on this date: A meeting to organize the first Friends of the Library in the ever in Adair County will begin at 4:30pm CT at the Adair County Public LIbrary. Anyone interested in becoming a part of this important group is invited to attend.

Thursday, August 24, 2006, continues through Sunday, August 27, 2006: Annual Camp Meeting at "Old Bryant Farm," in the Fairplay Community. Wednesday, Bro. Richard Lehman; Thursday, Bro. Saturday, August 26, 2006: The Dream Depot will be doing a 50's & 60's show this Saturday night, August 26, 2006, at 7:00pm CT. The proceeds from this show will go to support MS. This show is in memory of Mike Ellis and in honor of those in Adair County who are affected by MS. It's going to be a great show , so come on out bring all your family, friends and neighbors have some fun and support a great cause. If you don't have time to eat before you come, that's OK. Wednesday, August 30, 2006: 4:30pm CT, Friends of the Library will meet to vote on officers, to adopt bylaws, and set dues. Anyone interested in helping with an ambitious plan for expanded library services in Adair County should attend. Twenty-three attended the first meeting of Friends of the Library last Wednesday.


Thursday, August 31, 2006The Columbia-Adair County Chamber of Commerce will have a ribbon cutting ceremony in conjunction with the Open House at Barger Insurance Agency and Edward Jones on Thursday, August 31 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. The new offices are located at 326 Public Square, in Columbia.
