One day to go: Two have filed for Mayor, 8 for 6 Council seats There are now two candidates for Mayor of Columbia and eight candidates for the six city council seats. Two incumbents, Greg Willis and Chris Watts, are the only two candidates thus far for school board. County has one independent candidate for magistrate With less than 24 hours now left to file, there are two candidates in the race for Mayor of the City of Columbia, and eight have filed for the six seats on City Council. Mayor Bell has filed for re-election and Roger Rucker is challenging him. The eight candidates who have now filed include Craig Dean, Charles Grimsley, Joe Moore, June Parson, Shannon Rowe, Edwin Taylor, Greg Thomas, and Linda Waggener. One Independent files for Magistrate One candidate has filed as an independent in a county district. Gene Dale Holmes will appear on the ballot as an Independent in District 1. He is challenging two-term incumbent, Roger Stephens. Two have filed for Adair County Board of Education Only two incumbents, Greg Willis in District 1, and Chris Watts in District 3, have filed for the open Adair County School Board seats. Deputy County Court Clerk (and county court clerk-elect) Sheila Blair said that so far, no one has filed for the open Soil Conservation District, but she expects at least three by tomorrow. Deputy Clerk Blair reminds candidates that the drawing for positions on the ballot will take place at 2:00pm CT, Thursday, August 10, 2006, in the Adair County Court Clerk's office.
