Duo County Telephone Cooperative grows into Columbia

The CEO of Duo County Telephone Cooperative, Bill Magruder, thanked Chamber of Commerce members for welcoming Duo County as they take over and expand the cable company. They are beginning what will be an $8.2 million dollar investment in Adair County, expanding beyond cable to include telephone and computer services.

"We're excited about becoming part of the business community in Adair County," Magruder said. "When Mayor Bell first came to talk with us about the cable business, I wasn't sure if we would be interested. We want to be more than cable, we want to be your broadband service. Broadband will help take Adair to a level where businesses and individuals looking at to locate here will have a much easier decision knowing they will have total wireless access.

"We have 50 years of history in Adair County. There are 6,000 potential customers here and Duo County wants to earn the business of every one of them with local ownership, local customer service and local decision making. "

He also asked for patience as new services won't be ready to go until the first of the year. Duo County is located in the old Charter office for now beside Community Trust Bank until a customer service center can be built.

The next meeting of the Chamber of Commerce will be on Tuesday, August 15, 2006 in the lower level of the Training and Development Center. Mayor of Greensburg George "Lisle" Cheatham II will speak on hidden secrets in tourism development/the Green River Paddle Trail.
