Jane Lampton DAR members visit Jack Jouett Home Columbia group sees home of important Revolutionary War hero Photos accompany this story By Lila Ford On Saturday, July 8, 2006, the local Jane Lampton Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, toured the Jack Jouett home in Versailles, KY. Jack Jouett, as every Kentucky school child knows, is the Kentuckian who rode from Louisa, KY, to Charlottesville, VA, to save Thomas Jefferson and other signers of the Declaration of Independence from capture by a British force known as the Green Dragoons. Jouett helped Kentucky become a state, and, Sallie, the horse he rode on that historic 40 mile trip, left a long line of Kentucky thoroughbreds. DAR members who made the visit are Julie Skeeters, Rose Anderson, Nancy Willis, Jane Grant, Carolyn Gupton, Ann Popplewell, and Rita Johnson. For more information on Jack Jouett and his ride, Click here Kentucky CAR emphasizing education about Jack Jouett this year The Kentucky Society Children of the American Revolution (CAR) has made education about this important Kentucky hero a special project this year. The Jane Lampton Chapter is a co-sponsor of hte Long Hunters Chapter of CAR. Contact any chapter member to learn more about either organization. This story was posted on 2006-07-13 04:17:49
