Adair Arts Council update: Wanda Hill new Chairperson

The biggest news of the Adair Arts Council June meeting was the presentation of a gift of $1,000 to the Arts Council by Wanda Hill from The Bank of Columbia. She received a round of applause for her generous support. Mrs. Hill has been a leader in the Bank of Columbia for over 20 years and was nominated, because of that experience, to also become Chairperson of the developing Adair Arts Council Board. She graciously accepted.

Lucretia Begley also received a round of applause for the gift of the dinner at Lindsey Wilson in May which allowed the Adair Arts Council's expansion efforts a very meaningful kickoff event.

Project ideas that were carried forward from the May meeting which are in the works toward becoming special local events include:

Historic Christmas celebration at the Trabue Russell House (Kathy Jones leader with support from Ellen Zornes, Lee Ann Jessee and Henrietta Scott, and from Linda Lewis on a placemat promotion design)

A dulcimer concert (Wanda Hill leader, with support from Ellen Zornes, Phyllis Bell, and Linda Waggener)

A film workshop (Brett Reliford leader, with support from Lori Sargent and Tim Smith)

A quilt exhibit, (Kathy Jones leader with supporters to be recruited)

Improving signage and promotional training of personnel at restaurants and quick stops where visitors usually ask for directions (Joanne Held leader with support from Mayor Pat Bell, Linda Waggener and Sue Stivers and Kelli Bonifer with the Pickles Program.

In the area of Presentation skills development: L.E.A.D. ADAIR kicks off a new class in September.

The annual Giles festival coming up in October in Knifley, Bev England invites everyone to get involved. She especially needs craftspeople to get involved.

The expanded Adair Arts Council Board of Directors now includes: Ellen Zornes, Beverly England, Cora Renfro, Phyllis Winfrey Bell, Henrietta Scott, DebraWimmer, Katie Powell, Kathy Jones, Linda Waggener and Wanda Hill, our new Chairperson. Lucretia and John Begley are honorary board members for having given support for an organizational dinner meeting at Lindsey and Mayor Pat Bell and Martha are honorary board members for support in connecting the Arts Council and the Heritage Association.

The next meeting of the Adair Arts Council will be Thursday, August 10, 2006 at 6 p.m. at the Trabue-Russell House. The meeting is open to the public.

Those present at this meeting (from the sign-in sheet) were: Linda Lewis, Kathy Jones, Lucretia Begley, Wanda Hill, Martha Bell, Mayor Pat Bell, Joanne Held, Brett Reliford, Linda Waggener, Ellen Zornes, Bev England, Phyllis Winfrey Bell, Dana Harmon, Henrietta Scott, LeeAnn Jessie, Tim Smith, Lori Sargent, Cora Renfro
