$1 million in federal budget for Tourism in southeast Kentucky

Fifth District Representative Hal Rogers successfully included $1 million in the federal budget for the Southern and Eastern Kentucky Tourism Development Association (SEKTDA), which works to promote expand, develop and market the existing and potential tourism industry in Kentucky.
The funding is seen as a boost for tourism in South for tourism in the area which includes Adair County.

"Without question, our region is filled with some of the most stunning scenery in the nation," said Rogers. "Our natural and cultural attractions provide a tremendous opportunity for bringing new revenue and jobs into our communities. SEKTDA is marshalling our collective resources in an effort to promote our region to potential visitors. This funding will allow SEKTDA's efforts to continue."

Funding for SEKTDA is included in the 2007 budget, which was approved by the House of Representatives on June 29. Rogers is a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee, who works to secure funding for local projects in this role.

Sue Stivers, Executive Director of the Columbia Adair County Chamber of Commerce, is on the Board of Directors for SEKTDA.
