Obituary: Sarah Louise Beard Strickland, 65

Mrs. Strickland was native of Adair County who attended Adair schools and grew up in the Jamestown Hill Neighborhood of Columbia, KY

Late word has been received of the death of Sarah Louise Beard Strickland, 65, in Lillington, NC. Mrs. Strickland passed away June 1, 2006, at Central Carolina Hospital.

Mrs. Strickland was the daughter of the late John and Dorothy Beard of Columbia, KY. She grew up in Columbia and attended Columbia Grade Center, Adair County High School, and was active in the Columbia Baptist Church during her years here.


She will be sadly missed by her many friends in Adair County, especially by those from the Jamestown Street neighborhood were she grew up with older sister Rebecca, brothers Jim and Bobby, and younger sisters Carrie Alice and Peggy.

She was the widow of the late Leon Strickland, and was also preceded in death by two children, Bobby Strickland and Susan Greer.

She is survived by the following:
  • A step-daughter, Kay Strickland

  • Three sisters: Rebecca Corbett, Louisville, KY; and Peggy Nix, also of Louisville, KY; and Carrie Dillingham, Leesburg, FL.

  • Two brothers: Jim Beard, Columbia, KY; and Bob Beard, Ozark, AL
The memorial service was held at the O'Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home in Lillington, NC, with Rev. Sandy Williams the officiating clergy.

Memorials may be sent to The Sarah Strickland Fund, c/o O'Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home, PO Box 266, Lillington, NC.

Friends in Adair County will be saddened to hear the belated news of the passing of Sarah Louise Beard Strickland, 65, who died June 1, 2006, in Lillington, NC.

Mrs. Strickland was the daughter of the late John and Dorothy Beard. She was a member of a large family which grew up on Jamestown Hill. One brother, Jim Beard, is retired in Columbia.
