Big Red one of six finalist for induction into Mascot Hall of Fame

Stands chance to join Phillie Phanatic, Phoenix Gorilla, and Famous Chicken

Big Red, Western Kentucky University's athletic mascot since 1979, is one of six collegiate finalists for the Mascot Hall of Fame.

Voting is open on-line at Mascot Hall of Fame through July 15, 2006.

Also on the ballot with Big Red is Aubie (Auburn), Bucky (Wisconsin), Monte (Montana), Sparty (Michigan State) and YoUDee (Delaware).

Six mascots are candidates from the professional ranks as well, with voting separated by category. The Mascot Hall of Fame was created last year to "honor great mascot performers, performances and character branding programs that have inspired tradition and positively affected their communities," according to David Raymond, President of the Mascot Hall of Fame executive committee and the original Phillie Phanatic.

The induction ceremony will take place on August 15, 2006, at Love Park in Philadelphia.

The Phillie Phanatic, Phoenix Gorilla and Famous Chicken were the members of the inaugural class inducted in 2005.
