Does anybody remember a Hanging Tree on Snake Creek Road? Susie Grant wonders about the existence of a Hanging Tree on Snake Creek Road; historian Jason Harmon couldn't find anything on that legend. He'll keep working on it. But he did offer some fascinating legends from the area? Warning: It is spooky, with creaking ghost wagonwheels, a baby in a well. Also wonderfully funny: The dentist whose anesthetic of choice was 7-Up Writer Susie Grant wrote us, "I also have a question. Have you ever heard of a hanging tree on Snake Creek road? It was mentioned casually by a woman who used to live in Adair County, now I am wondering what it is all about." It is an interesting question. We asked historian Jason Harmon about it. and here's what he wrote back: "I talked to my dad and grandma. They had never heard of the Hanging Tree on Snake Creek Rd. My grandparents lived on the road during the 40's and 50's. Editor's note: Congratulations on nearing a college diploma. Thanks for sharing anecdotes from a collection we think will one day be parts of books and movies. We're anxious to see your next stories. -ED This story was posted on 2006-06-13 08:16:13
