Adair County High School, A.L Sinclair on KET

Adair County High School and Adair County Solid Waste Coordinator A.L. Sinclair will be featured in the 2006 PRIDE Envi Awards show on Kentucky Educational Television (KET) at 8 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. CT on Tuesday, June 13.

"This show will spotlight our region's best ambassadors, the students and volunteers who take pride in their home," said Richard Thomas, PRIDE executive director. "The TV audience will see these folks at work in the region's scenic landscape. Even local entertainers will be showcased. This program really will show off the good things happening in southern and eastern Kentucky."


The 2006 PRIDE Envi Awards presents the students, volunteers and community leaders who were nominated for Envi Awards due to their efforts to protect the natural resources of southern and eastern Kentucky. The TV show includes videos about all nominees, who were:
  • Prestonsburg Elementary School (Floyd County)
  • Southside Elementary School (Lee County)
  • Botts Elementary School (Menifee County)
  • North Laurel Middle School (Laurel County)
  • Roy G. Eversole Middle School (Perry County)
  • Russell County Middle School
  • Adair County High School
  • Letcher County Central High School
  • Corbin High School (Whitley County)
  • McCreary County Extension Service
  • Lakis Mavinidis (Harlan County)
  • Kiwanis Club of Paintsville (Johnson County)
  • Cory Gearlds (Monroe County)
  • A.L. Sinclair, Adair County Solid Waste Coordinator
  • Darlene Thacker, Friends of Fishtrap Lake (Pike County)
  • Deb Bledsoe, Appalachia - Science in the Public Interest (Rockcastle County)
  • Penny and Robert Brown, Patrons of Riverwoods
The TV show includes entertainment by comedian Carl Hurley, the Harlan Boys Choir, and Alison Wasson and Shady Grove Express, a bluegrass act from Powell County. Special guests are Congressman Hal Rogers, PRIDE co-founder; Cynthia Rogers; Jill Crawford, daughter of PRIDE co-founder, the late James E. Bickford; and Geraldine and Courtney Turner, the widow and daughter of Tony Turner, who was the Vice President and Station Manager at WYMT-TV and founding chairman of the PRIDE Board of Directors.

The 2006 PRIDE Envi Awards was recorded May 8, 2006, at The Center for Rural Development in Somerset, Kentucky.

The annual Envi Awards ceremony honors the individuals and organizations who excelled during the year at pursuing the PRIDE mission Personal Responsibility In A Desirable Environment. The PRIDE initiative is cleaning waterways, removing illegal trash dumps and promoting environmental education in 38 counties of southern and eastern Kentucky. PRIDE is funded by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
