A member of the Russell County High School Class of 2006 has been named a Duo County Telephone Cooperative Corp. Scholar at Lindsey Wilson College. Dana McGowan of Russell Springs has received the telephone cooperative's scholarship at Lindsey Wilson. McGowan plans to major in biology this fall at Lindsey Wilson. And she will get to start her major in the college's new Science Center. Lindsey Wilson's $9 million, 42,000-square-foot Science Center will be opened in August. Telephone cooperative established scholarship five years ago Duo County Telephone founded the scholarship program five years ago for one year for a first-time, full-time freshman to attend Lindsey Wilson from one of Duo County Telephone's service area, which includes parts of Adair, Casey, Cumberland and Russell counties. "It's an honor to receive this honor from Duo County," said McGowan, the daughter of Karen Dockery and Kenneth McGowan, both of Russell Springs. "I appreciate everything Duo County Telephone has done to help me attend college." "Helping good student . . . attend wonderful college like Lindsey Wilson" And Duo County officials say they are equally excited about supporting the scholarship program at Lindsey Wilson. "We are pleased to be able to help a good student like Dana attend a wonderful college like Lindsey Wilson" said Duo County Executive Vice President/Chief Operating Officer Bill Magruder. "Supporting our community and local students to strive for higher education is very important. We hope Dana achieves her goals at Lindsey Wilson." At Russell County High School, McGowan was a member of the girls' basketball team, Future Farmers of America chapter and Fellowship of Christian Athletes chapter.
