Mildred Young Hancock, 90, artist, gardener, former assistant to Dr. Loy

Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 30, 2006 at Grissom Funeral Home at 2 p.m. for Mildred Young Hancock, 90, who passed away Wednesday.

She was the daughter of Charles Winston and Clara Garnett Young and attended Western Kentucky University prior to working with the late Dr. M. C. Loy for about twelve years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert P. Hancock, in 1999.


In 1960 she moved to Brandenburg, Ky and worked for Drs. Nasser and Cole. She was later employed as administrator of Medco Center of Brandenburg for several years prior to retirement.

In 1983 she moved to Eufaula, AL and then to Dothan, AL in 1987.

Mrs. Hancock was an avid gardener and a seamstress. She was also an artist and loved music. She was a member of the Heritage Baptist Church in Dothan.

Survivors include:
  • A son and daughter-in-law, Robert Douglas "Doug" and Brenda Hancock, of Dothan, AL

  • Two grandchildren, Brian Douglas Hancock of Birmingham, AL, and Jean Elizabeth Hancock of Atlanta, GA
Bro. Randy Johnson will officiate at the Sunday afternoon service with burial in the Columbia Cemetery.

Visitation begins at 1 p.m. on Sunday prior to the 2 p.m. funeral service.
