LWC Criminal Justice students help sheriff protect community

"If we can't find you, we can't help you" - sign in Adair Sheriff's Office

April 6, 2006 - A total of 28 Lindsey Wilson College students in American Legal Systems and Constitutional Law classes recently worked on a service learning project with Adair County Sheriff Steve Cheatham to prepare house-number plates for area residents.

Residents attach the plates, which are blue with white reflective numbers, to their mailboxes so medical workers and police officers can more easily locate houses during emergencies. "If we can't find you, we can't help you," a sign in the Adair County Sheriff's Office says. With the easy to read, reflective signs, finding a person needing help will be far easier.

Students make 50 signs for seniors, low income families

Students created templates and made 50 signs for Adair County Sheriff Steve Cheatham, who then provided the finished signs to senior citizens for a low cost.

Some grant money has helped the Sheriff supply many of the signs free. At least temporarily, the fund is depleted, but the signs are still available for $10 each.
The signs can be ordered at the Sheriff's Office in the Adair County Courthouse, 500 Public Square, Columbia, KY. 42728. Phone 270-384-2776, office; emergencies are 911. email: adairsheriff@alltel.net
