Herman Chelf, 87, Rural Mail Carrier and WWII Army Veteran

Mr. Chelf was a member of the Knifley Christian Church, a beloved rural mail carrier for 33 years, and a World War II U.S. Army Veteran. He was the son of the late Ira & Betty Knifley Cundiff. He was the patriarch of a highly regarded Green River Country of Adair County, KY, family.

Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, March 20, 2006 at 1pmCT, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg Street, for Herman Chelf, who passed away Friday, March 17, 2006, after several weeks illness. Bro. Lewis Haynes will officiate at the Monday afternoon service with burial in the Haven Hill Cemetery, 1276 Liberty Road, Columbia, KY. The family requests visitation after 4:30pmCT, on Sunday, March 19, 2006, at the funeral home.



He is survived by his wife, Ruby Cundiff Chelf

He was the son of the late Ira and Betty Knifley Chelf of Knifley.

In addition to his wife Ruby, survivors also include:
  • Three daughters: Sharon Bottoms and her husband Larry of Mesquite, NV; Betty Sue Feese and her husband William of Columbia; and Karen Fones and her husband Mike of Norris, TN

  • Two sisters: Allene Cundiff of Mt. Sterling, KY; and Betty Jean Benningfield of Campbellsville

  • Seven grandchildren: Shane Bottoms, Dr. Shantila Rexroat, Dr. Shannon Campbell, Jacob Feese, Jeremiah Fones, Megan Long and Cory Fones

  • Five great grandchildren.
