LWC Humanity Hands organization will be traveling to San Diego Penny Drive is a major part of the the fundraising effort One photo accompanies this story By Emily Fryman Lindsey Wilson Staff Writer frymane@lindsey.edu Columbia, KY On March 11, Lindsey Wilson will send out one of their organizations to San Diego, Ca. This group will consist of Andy McAllister, advisor of Humanity Hands organization, and 15 students. Group will work for one week helping build houses, businesses The group will work for one week with several other humanity hand volunteers in building houses and businesses. They will also work at the Humanity Hands Headquarters stocking inventory and other supplies that are donated to the organization. The club has held several fundraisers such as roadblocks, silent auction, working with Amazon.com fundraiser department, and one in particular, the Penny Drive. $227.50 in pennies already raised "So far we have raised 22,750 pennies, or $227.50," said McAllister. "We have placed jars all over campus and the winner of the Penny Drive was the development office." Humanity Hands club on Lindseys campus started in 2002. Every year since then the college has traveled to San Antonio, Tx., Los Angeles, Ca., San Francisco, Ca., and San Diego, Ca. "This gives the students a basic sense of pride," McAllister said. "Most of the students that go on the trip have never seen someone less fortunate. They come home wanting to bring the gift of giving in their own community." McAllister looks forward to trip every year McAllister also said that he looks forward to this trip every year. "It can be a challenge to get everyone as motivated as I am at the beginning of the week," McAllister said. "But the trip is not only a great chance to give back, its exciting and a vacation from school." Direct comments are not available.
