John Adair Intermediate Students advance to Regional competition

CONGRATULATIONS J.A.I.S. ACADEMIC TEAM!
John Adair Intermediate School recently hosted the 42nd District Elementary Governors Cup Academic Competition for 4th and 5th grade students from Cumberland County Elementary, Edmonton Elementary, North Metcalfe Elementary, and John Adair.

On Thursday, March 2, teams of four students competed in Future Problem Solving by following a 6-step format to develop creative solutions to a scenario they might face in the future. John Adairs team of Alison Feese, Anna Harris, Cody Herbst, and Ashton Nixon placed second in the District.


Alternate team members are Stephen Chafin, Jared Corbin, and Ben Holt. Their coach is Jeana Pike.

On Saturday, March 4, individual students competed in Composition, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and Arts & Humanities. John Adair students receiving medals in these events were: Cassidy Pickens 1st place in Composition and 1st place in Mathematics; Mary Kate White 1st place in Language Arts and 5th place in Social Studies; Noah Richard 2nd place in Arts & Humanities; Ben Holt 3rd place in Mathematics; Cody Herbst and Matthew Rogers tied for 4th place in Science; and Leslie Cowan 5th place in Composition.

In the fast paced Quick Recall matches John Adairs team claimed the Runner-up trophy.

Students on the QR team are: Sydney Bright, Sarah Coomer, Leslie Cowan, Cody Herbst, Ben Holt, Cassidy Pickens, Noah Richard, Matthew Rogers, and Ashley Simpson. Other students participating for John Adair in individual events were Garrett Fausnaugh and Amber Phillips. Their coaches are Judy Haysley and Krista Armes.

When all points were combined, John Adair received the District Runner-up trophy. John Adairs Quick Recall and FPS teams, as well as the students receiving individual medals, will advance to the Regional competitions being held at Cumberland County Elementary School on March 16 and 18.
