Cyrus / Maj. Winfrey--Pickin' em up It will be remembered that Maj. Thomas Clinton "T.C." Winfrey was one of the four gentlemen who made hasty retreat from the Bank of Columbia early in the afternoon of April 29, 1872. Further research has revealed Major Winfrey had prior experience in showing his heels--but perhaps not so much so as his fellow Union officer, General Hobson. The following excerpt from an undated Louisville newspaper article (c. 1880s) tells the tale. On the stump, [T.C.] Winfrey was no mean adversary. He is a good lawyer, and has an extensive practice. He has an ever present wit and is full of resources. An anecdote of him and Gen. Ed. Hobson illustrates this. CYRUSCentral Ohio Bureau Chief Direct comments are not available.
