REMINDER: Special Cancer Screening Event at Adair CO Health Dept today Adair County Health Center will offer a special Ladies Day Out screening for cancer on Thursday, February 9, 2006 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Cancer screening (pap smears, clinical breast exams and mammogram referrals) will be available by appointment by calling (270)384-2286 or (270)384-5564 Extension 0. Every participant will receive gifts in tote bag Every participant will receive, in addition to screening, a lovely "goody bag" with a tote bag, pink umbrella, cup, pedometer, lapel pin and many educational materials. The health department will also serve refreshments. "This is a day to make women feel special and realize how important it is to take good care of themselves," emphasized Adair County Health Center planner, Jelaine Phillips. Screenings support by Kentucky Womens Cancer Screeing Project Through funds from the Kentucky Womens Cancer Screening Project, women in Kentucky are able to receive either free or low cost cancer screening, regardless of ability to pay. "These funds make it possible for any woman who needs screening to get it, and get excellent services, through their local health department regardless of whether or not they have insurance, Medicare or Medicaid. This is a great service to women," commented Gloria Sams with Kentucky Cancer Program whose regional office in Somerset serves the Lake Cumberland District and has helped provide Komen Foundation funds for the materials given to each woman who participates February 9th. Health Department hopes to reach women 50-64 Health Department staff hope to reach women between the ages of 50-64 who need screening, especially those who have never been screened or not screened within the past 5 years.
