Friday July 5th declared an Adair County holiday

Adair County Judge Executive Larry Russell Bryant released the following proclaiming Friday July 5, 2024 an Adair County holiday:

WHEREAS: Per the Adair County Fiscal Court administrative code "when any holiday listed above falls on Sunday, the following business day shall be considered a holiday. When any holiday listed above falls on a Saturday, the preceding Friday shall be considered a holiday. In addition to the above, any day may be designated as a holiday by proclamation of the County Judge/Executive.

This schedule excludes Jail, 911 Center, and GRAS employees who will receive holiday pay for the calendar day of the holiday since their offices must remain open at all times."

WHEREAS: After consulting with the Judicial Center, the County Clerk, the County Sheriff, and the County PVA about employees who had scheduled vacation and other forms of leave, and understanding the staffing of each county department,

WHEREAS: Receiving both calls and office visits from several local businesses which are affected by the operations of the county,

WHEREAS: Weighing in several factors, and putting much thought into whether or not to close the offices of Adair County, this decision was not "spiteful", but very difficult.

WHEREAS: This decision was heavily impacted by another department, which the County Judge-Executive has no control over, deciding to close its office on Friday, July 5, 2024. That independent decision to close allowed the county employees of that department to get paid time off. According to the County Attorney, "if you do it for one employee, you have to do it for all of them".

WHEREAS: If the county reassigned employees to work in another department for the day so that offices could possibly remain open, County Treasurer Quinn stated that those reassigned employees would still have to be paid time and a half in addition to Holiday pay. It would not be fair to allow a portion of those employees such a monetary benefit and not ALL employees.

WHEREAS: Independence Day is a celebration of upholding and honoring the freedoms of our great nation and the citizens within it.

WHEREAS: I, Larry Russell Bryant, Judge-Executive of Adair County, in recognition of Independence Day do hereby declare July 5, 2024 a holiday. Furthermore, I want to thank EACH and EVERY county employee for their hard work and dedication serving the citizens of this county. Many of their jobs do not end at quitting time. They are on the clock 24/7 protecting and making decisions to better serve this community. I encourage the community to observe this time with appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities to enjoy the freedoms that make America great! We truly are a blessed nation!!
