Support group helps grandparents raising kids

The support group for grandparents raising their grandchildren, the Grand Group, met last Tuesday for lunch and discussion of how to help their grandchildren and themselves in their work. The group also welcomes others who are raising children whether they are the grandparents or others.

Facilitator Jennifer Sebastion, who works with the Healthy Kids Clinic for Adair Schools, shared with those present that she and Ellen Zornes are holding the lunch meeting to see what next steps are needed to help grandparents who have care of Young children.

In the discussion, we learned that just one of the many stresses for grandparents is young folks messiness and lack of cleanup - ideas were shared on how to motivate them.

I remembered when my son Tom took a job after college to go to Japan and teach elementary students English. He said the school had every one of his students participate after lunch in cleanup. Everybody had duties to do and the work was required of every student. It might be good to add that to our schools in America so that we learn young how to take care of our surroundings
