Hershel Melson, 88, Knifley, KY (1935-2024)

Hershel Melson of Knifley died on Monday, May 6, 2024 at 2:04 P.M. at his residence. He was 88 years old.

The funeral service will be held at 2pmCT on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Michael Helm officiating Burial will follow in Jones Chapel Cemetery.

Visitation is requested after 5pmCT on Wednesday.


He was born May 13, 1935, in Adair County, to the late Estel and Tilda Melson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Valtie Edel Wheat Melson, a daughter, Betty Crawhorn and a granddaughter, Rebecca Judd. Hershel was a retired truck driver, working until his late 70's.

Survivors include:
  • One daughter - Linda Walker (Rusty) of Knifley
  • One son - Lee Melson of Jamestown
  • Eight grandchildren and several great-grandchildren
  • Several other relatives and friends
